Thanks for visiting my site. I’m Christine Fears, a freelance editor and owner of Fearsome Editorial.
I have always written and read a lot, which is vital training for any editor. After spending most of my school years reading the books I wanted to read instead of the ones I was meant to be reading, I headed off to Aberdeen University to get myself an MA in English Literature (1st Class Honours, with a minor in Philosophy). I enjoyed spending time writing about what I’d read so much that I came back down south and studied for an MPhil in English Literature from the University of Cambridge.
The publishing industry seemed like a logical place to go in order to continue reading and writing as much as I could. Professionally, I have held positions at publishers as varied as Erotic Review Magazine, ER Books and the Public Library of Science (PLOS). But I found I was beginning to spend more time reading emails than content, so I switched to freelancing to get back to what I enjoy doing most.
Working for a variety of publishers, businesses and individuals as a freelance editor allows me to really get to grips with new ideas, and I love straightening out sentences and polishing people’s words to really make them shine. Along the way, I have picked up experience in overseeing complex editorial projects, creating digital books, and working on a variety of topics and subject areas.
When I’m not buried in words in one way or another, I enjoy drawing and illustrating, walking and swimming, and getting out there to meet authors, academics and other interesting people I might be able to help out.
